Video on Demand

Video-on-Demand (VOD) increases TV viewing comfort and saves time when it comes to watching a great movie. VOD is one of the biggest advances in interactive TV such as IPTV and OTT, in comparison to old fashion broadcasted TV. Content delivery service enables content categorizing and simple content purchases. VOD enables providers to deliver content in a satisfying and enjoyable way. With VOD viewers` can choose from different categories: Recommended by the platform, Most Watched, My Content (purchased or recorded content), and Recommended by a friend, by which users can save movies recommended by friends. Viewers` can also purchase movies via VOD or get additional information about such.

The operator can determine his own VOD content structure and organize categories. Some categories are already predefined, such as VOD recommendations (based on the end user’s behavior), Most watched, and Most purchased. The user can navigate in the VOD library in poster view or list view and select the desired content to see more information: title, subtitle, genre, director, cast, release date, plot, audio language subtitles language, quality (SD, HD, UHD/4k), and price.

The operator can offer as purchasable content an individual movie or a package of movies as Transaction VOD (TVOD) or a package of movies as Subscription VOD (SVOD). Like all other content, also VOD can be purchased with various rental periods, and with the local currency or loyalty points.

Each VOD movie can be offered in different variants – the same movie but in different quality or audio language. The operator can create one movie with one poster and prepare different combinations of audio and subtitle languages and streaming quality. Each variant holds the information of a single quality attribute, multiple audio languages, and multiple subtitle languages. The benefit of multiple movie variants is that the operator is able to charge differently for the various variants of the same movie while variants are represented with one description – a poster.

Movies can be organized in categories and each movie can be represented with a single description and poster. When the user buys an individual movie (TVOD) it can be watched for the duration of the rental period. The Beenius Platform also supports offering multiple movies within one package - purchase group. Such a package has its own title, poster, and description. The end user can take a look at the package content and buy the package, which is then watchable for the purchased rental period. In such a way the operator can offer and organize movie series and episodes and decide if it will sell them as separate episodes or as a complete series. This content bundling enables SVOD on the Beenius Interactive TV Platform. The operator can manage a package with different movies within SVOD package topics, which can be changed after each recurring pricing period.

One of the specialties of the Beenius Interactive TV Platform and its end-user-oriented features is definitely the Gifts functionality. The end user can send VOD content to a friend as a gift. The sender can send the selected VOD content and when his or her friend accepts it, it is billed to the sender’s account.

Bookmarks improve the usability of the VOD service as the end user can set multiple bookmarks for each movie at any time when some interesting content is played. In addition to manual bookmarks, user experience is improved with automatic bookmarks. Automatic bookmarks are generated every time VOD content is not stopped at the end. The user can view the list of bookmarks, add bookmarks to it, and start play-out from the time marked by the bookmark.
